What is Psychological Assessment?
Psychological Assessment (also called Psychological Testing) is a method of evaluating symptoms, functions, and underlying differences in the brain and how they play out in the real world. Assessments utilize evidence-based psychological measures backed by decades of research in order to accurately collect and analyze psychological traits.
Psychological Assessments usually involve meeting one-on-one with a psychologist to complete a series of tasks and answer questions about your life (or the life of your child or loved one). Many assessment tasks are simple and quite similar to activities done in schools (e.g., vocabulary tests), while others may be more complex and challenging.
Some assessments are brief and may only take an hour or two, while others are much more comprehensive and can take several hours to complete. Depending on your schedule and the amount of testing, the assessment may occur in one meeting or be spread over multiple sessions.
After testing is complete, a psychologist will write a report detailing the results and what they mean. This report is designed to provide you (and/or the court, depending on the circumstances) with information about what was found through the assessment. Privately requested assessments will then include a feedback session where you and the psychologist go through the results together and talk through their recommendations. Court-ordered assessments may not include this feedback session, and the process may differ depending on the circumstances.
Who can provide a Psychological Assessment?
Psychological Assessments can only be provided by licensed psychologists. Some measures may be administered by technicians or other mental health professionals, but only a psychologist is qualified to interpret and make conclusions based on the findings from an assessment.
WMPS’s team of assessment psychologists are expertly trained in helping you find the answers you deserve through evidence-based psychological testing.

Based on the results of a comprehensive assessment, psychologists can offer recommendations for treatment and answer your questions.
